San Salvatore Monastery hotel offers harbour view maisonette suites (split level) in the old town of Chania. The original medieval monastery is divided in two parts: The south section is a private residential area and a small hotel while the Chapel at the northern end houses a Byzantine collection supervised by the Ministry of Culture.
Esteemed for its authentic simplicity, this historic Venetian three story building which contained the chapter house, the dormitories, the cloister and more, is a typical example of the Venetian architecture. All guest rooms have been restored and offer modern facilities while preserving the Venetian touches such as beamed ceilings, pebble mosaic floors, and thick stone walls.
San Salvatore Monastery was built after the 4th Crusade, on a small hill overlooking the harbour where originally a Byzantine church stood. The small domed chapel on the east side was expanded to the north and west in three phases between the 15th century (or earlier) and the late Venetian period (middle of 17th century)
