What's New at San Salvatore – 2025

San Salvatore stays open throughout the year, but as the town quiets down in winter, we take the opportunity to improve, restore, and prepare small surprises—so that each new season feels even more welcoming than the last.
What we’ve learned from our guests:
While our location, the charm of our suites, and the warmth of our hosting continue to receive praise, many guests have expressed a desire for more facilities and activities on site. This year, we focused on making better use of our shared spaces—adding features that make them more functional, enjoyable, and engaging throughout the day and evening. We’ve also made ourselves more accessible, enhancing not just the setting but the overall guest experience.

Here’s what’s new in 2025

  • A new self-service bar with drinks and snacks available 24/7, making it easier than ever to enjoy a relaxed moment onsite—or to share your own food and drinks with friends in comfort.
  • A refreshed rooftop lounge, now framed by a vertical green wall, with sunloungers, sunset views over the Gulf of Chania, and a new outdoor projection area for movies and calming content under the stars.
  • Wi-Fi has been further upgraded to the fastest and most stable connection currently available.
  • The cloister, exhibition area, and garden office have received a partial facelift, with new architectural lighting added to enhance charm and atmosphere—especially in the evenings.
  • Outdoor floors and staircases have been refinished, improving both safety and appearance. We’re not quite ready to install an elevator—but we’ve finally done something about those stairs that have challenged so many along the way!
  • Our staff office has been renovated for better access and visibility. As always, we remain available 24/7 for any questions or requests during your stay.

    More on the way!
  • A new digital tool-the San Guide- is in development to help you plan excursions and discover local activities—from hikes and popular beaches to dining and cultural landmarks.
  • A new visitors’ restroom will soon be available, uniquely housed in a restored Ottoman-era water closet, complete with a beautifully preserved dome.

Each change is small on its own, but together they reflect our ongoing effort to make your stay more thoughtful and true—to Chania, to Cretan hospitality, and to the soul of San Salvatore.
